Music Consulting:   (Some consulting services are still available)
Consulting seems to be everywhere in the business world, except when it comes to the music business. Music Consulting is a service modeled after consulting services from such other disciplines as medicine, law, engineering, and public relations. Families, businesses, school, and music organizations spent thousands of dollars each year without expert advice on instrument selection, acoustics, electronics, programming, installation, component compatibility, music technology, recording technology, music education, production, advertising, music therapy, and music career selection. Engaging competent music consultation would facilitate their getting better value for each dollar spent of their music, equipment, and construction budgets. Consultation will be billed hourly or per project.  You need a Music Consultant if you:
A.  are planning a Wedding, reception, or fashion show for which the music is an important part of the event;
B.  are building an establishment for which acoustics is an important part of the function;
C.  have a significant music budget which is not being utilized effectively;
D.  are planning to spend thousands of dollars on pursuing a music career which may not pan out;
E.  need to install electronic and music equipment into a new or renovated building;
F.  are planning to purchase and install a large organ, piano, or other expensive music equipment;
G   need inexpensive original music for commercials, advertising, political events, or other;
H.  have serious music therapy need in you family;
I.   feel that your own music director or department needs outside expert help to accomplish a set of goals.
All initial consultations are free of charge.
Comprehensive Music Study:
Our society applauds and rewards the specialist in most areas of endeavor, especially in music. However, the Renaissance ideal has always been to celebrate the musician (The Comprehensive Musician) who has a significant grasp of music in all of its various components. These include Music Theory, Music Composition, Orchestration, Music Arranging, Counterpoint, Performance on instruments from the four instrumental families, Conducting, Improvisation, Music History, Music Philosophy, Music Education, Aesthetics, Recording, Electronics, Computer Music Printing and Sequencing, Choral and Vocal Music, Song Writing, Jazz, and Folk Music. This concept is extremely ignored by most universities and most curriculums. This course of study involves all of the above in an integrated curriculum tailored to the individual and his present musical strengths and his goals and interests. Every Comprehensive Music Student will study slightly different curricula in a slightly different balance and arrive at a slightly different place in his music proficiencies as a result.  Successful instruction would require a multifaceted instructor with a wide and varied educational and professional background. See--(Do You Know Jack)(Getting to Know Jack). The successful student should be interested in seeing the big picture of how music works as well as learning the specific skills required to reach the Renaissance ideal of Comprehensive Musician. The lessons are 60 to 120 minutes in length and usually include instruction on one or more instruments, combination theory-composition-history-philosophy instruction, and a project oriented hands-on music involvement.  All initial consultations are free of charge.
Music Composition:
In a way, lessons in Music Composition, like the Comprehensive Music Study above, involves all aspects of music. The composer must understand and be fully fluent in Music Theory, Performance Practices, Music History, Orchestration, conducting, and more. In short, the composer must understand the big picture and all of its components. See--(Comprehensive Music Study). However, composition is not a "black art" (magic). Every musician who can read a little music and hum a tune can learn to compose. I've heard workers out in the fields whistling tunes that if written down would be wonderfully composed tunes. Composition is the art and skill of taking the musical sounds that everyone hears in their heads and transcribing them into a format that others can shore and enjoy them. Everyone could be a composer if they tried. This course helps to make that come true. Study of Music Composition involves Music Theory, part writing, orchestration, transposition, rhythmic studies, music listening, Music History, and an examination of performance practices. All initial consultations are free of charge.
